Some musicians choose an instrument. Jérôme Klein chose three. And somewhere along the way, he decided that sticking to one musical genre wasn’t particularly interesting either.
Born and raised in Luxembourg, Jérôme Klein is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer whose musical world moves freely between jazz, indie pop, electronic music and contemporary improvisation. Equally at home behind a piano, vibraphone or drum kit, his approach is driven by curiosity, a fascination with sound and a desire to explore the spaces between musical genres.
Classically trained at the Luxembourg Conservatory before pursuing jazz studies at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels, Jérôme developed a musical language shaped by both the freedom of improvisation and the emotional directness of alternative pop and electronic music.
Over the years, he has become a familiar presence on the Luxembourgish and international music scenes, collaborating with artists including Stéphane Galland, Bojan Z, Manu Codjia, Ben Wendel, David Binney and Antoine Pierre. His musical journey has taken him to stages and festivals across Europe, Asia and North America, including Jazz à Vienne, Montreux Jazz Festival and numerous international tours.
In 2017, he founded KLEIN, his own creative playground where acoustic instruments, synthesizers, electronic textures and improvisation collide. With two releases and extensive international touring, the project established his distinctive approach to composition: atmospheric and introspective one moment, rhythmically explosive the next. His album Sonder reflects this fascination with contrasts, blending melancholic melodies, intricate rhythms and cinematic soundscapes.
Beyond KLEIN, Jérôme continues to explore new musical territories through a wide range of collaborations. His acoustic duo with longtime musical partner Pol Belardi brings together piano and vibraphone in an intimate, cinematic setting, while their trio SameSameSame, alongside drummer Niels Engel, takes a more energetic direction, drawing inspiration from electronic dance music, groove and spontaneous improvisation.
His work as a composer and producer also extends into alternative pop and songwriting, where his interest in electronic sound design meets a more direct, song-oriented approach.
Whether composing, producing or performing, Jérôme’s musical philosophy remains refreshingly simple: follow the sound, embrace the unexpected and never feel obliged to fit into a particular box.
